What is NSP Scholarship (National Scholarship Portal)?
The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is an online platform (web portal) where students from across India can apply for different government scholarships in one place. Instead of filling separate forms for each scheme, NSP makes the entire process easy and online.
The portal is created by the Government of India to:
- simplify scholarship applications
- reduce paperwork
- avoid duplicate submissions
- help money reach the right students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
On NSP, you can find scholarships from:
- Central Government
- State Governments
- UGC
- AICTE
- Ministry of Education
- Ministry of Minority Affairs
- Ministry of Social Justice
- And many other departments
Whether you’re in school, college or university, NSP helps eligible students receive financial support without visiting offices or middlemen.
Who Should Use NSP?
NSP is helpful for:
- School students (Class 1–10)
- Higher secondary students (Class 11–12)
- College students (UG/PG)
- Diploma, Polytechnic, ITI students

Getting Started With NSP (National Scholarship Portal) — Step-by-Step Guide
Here’s a quick look at how NSP works. If you are new, start with OTR. If you already have an OTR number, you can directly apply or check your status.

Complete OTR (One-Time Registration)
The first step is the OTR — One-Time Registration. Visit the OTR page on the NSP homepage and complete the e-KYC using your Aadhaar and registered mobile number.
Get Your OTR Number
After completing OTR, you’ll receive a unique OTR number on your registered mobile. You’ll use this OTR number to log in to NSP and apply for scholarships.
Check NSP Scholarship Eligibility
Open the Eligibility Check page and provide details like state, caste category, gender, and course level to view the list of eligible NSP schemes.
Apply for NSP Scholarship (Fresh or Renewal)
Log in with your OTR number and password. Submit a fresh application (new students) or renew your NSP scholarship (previous beneficiaries). Select the scheme, fill the form carefully, and upload the required documents.
Verify and Submit Application
Double-check all details. Your application will undergo institute-level and department-level verification. After verifying your entries, click Submit Application to complete the process.
Track NSP Application Status
Use the Application Status page to track whether your form is submitted, verified, approved, or sent for payment.

NSP (National Scholarship Portal) – Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers about OTR, eligibility, documents, Aadhaar/bank seeding, application status, PFMS payments, renewals, and deadlines.
OTR (One-Time Registration) is the process of creating your unique student profile on NSP portal using e-KYC. It prevents duplicate accounts and is required before applying for any scheme or renewal.
Eligibility varies by scheme. Most require Indian citizenship, enrollment in a recognized institution, valid category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Minority/Disability where applicable), and family income within the scheme’s limit. Always check the scheme’s official guidelines on NSP before applying.
You typically need: Aadhaar, OTR number, recent photograph, caste/category certificate (if applicable), income certificate, previous year marksheet, current year admission/fee receipt, bank passbook (Aadhaar-seeded account), and bonafide/verification forms prescribed by the scheme.
Use the Eligibility Check tool on NSP. Enter state, category, gender, course level, and other details to see a filtered list of schemes you can apply for this session.
You may apply for more than one scheme only if the guidelines permit it and there’s no overlap in benefits. Many central schemes do not allow dual benefits for the same academic year. Always read the scheme’s “conditions for availing other scholarships.”
Fresh is for first-time applicants to that scheme. Renewal is for students who received the scholarship last year and are continuing the same course/institution, meeting the scheme’s progression criteria (like minimum marks and attendance).
e-KYC requires OTP verification on your Aadhaar-linked number. If your mobile isn’t linked, visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update it, then attempt OTR again.
Seeding links your Aadhaar to your bank account for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Scholarships are paid only into an Aadhaar-seeded account. Check seeding status with your bank or via NPCI/UIDAI channels.
Use the Application Status page on NSP for form progress (submitted → verified → approved). For fund credit, check PFMS “Know Your Payments” with your bank details/Aadhaar to see sanction and payment entries.
Frequent issues include: mismatched name/date of birth across Aadhaar and certificates, unclear scans, wrong scheme selection, invalid income/caste proofs, non-recognized institution, or bank account not Aadhaar-seeded.
Most schemes treat a change in course/institution as a new admission, so you’ll submit a Fresh application (subject to scheme rules). Check the scheme’s renewal conditions for exceptions.
Deadlines vary by department and scheme. Refer to the official last date shown against each scheme on NSP and apply well before the cut-off to avoid last-minute e-KYC or document issues.
Wait a minute and retry, ensure network coverage, and check if your number is Aadhaar-linked. If the issue persists, use the NSP helpdesk or visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update the mobile linkage.
Some schemes differentiate amounts for hostellers and day scholars. You must correctly mark your status and provide relevant proof (hostel certificate, if required) to receive the appropriate allowance.
Post-submission edits are limited. If your institute/department has not verified the application yet, some fields may be reopened during correction windows. Otherwise, you may need to reapply next session.
