NSP Scholarship Status 2025–26 — Check Application & Payment Status
Complete guide to check NSP application status on scholarships.gov.in and payment status on PFMS. Includes step-by-step instructions, troubleshooting, timelines, and FAQs for students and institutes.
At a glance
There are two different checks you may need to do: Application Status (shows verification stage on NSP portal) and Payment Status (shows whether the scholarship amount has been credited to your bank account via PFMS). This guide shows both processes, how they connect, what each status means, and what to do at each stage.
Part A — Check NSP Application Status (scholarships.gov.in)
Open the official NSP login
Visit the NSP login page and choose the student login section. Use the official portal only: Open NSP Login
Never use unauthorised third-party portals. Bookmark the official NSP site for future checks.
Login with OTR ID or Aadhaar Number
Use your OTR ID and password, or your Aadhaar number and OTP. If you forgot your OTR, use the NSP “Know your OTR” / “Forgot OTR” link on home page.
- If you used parent/guardian OTR for a minor, ask the guardian to log in and check the application.
- If you see multiple OTRs, contact NSP support — duplicates can cause rejections.
Go to Application Status / Dashboard
From the dashboard select Application Status or My Applications. The portal shows each application with a clear stage label and history of actions (submitted, verified, sent for payment, etc.).
Understand status labels
The portal typically uses staged labels. Here’s what they usually mean:
- Submitted: Your form was received by NSP and is awaiting institute verification.
- Institute Verified: Your college/school has checked and forwarded your form.
- Department/District Verified: Concerned department has validated documents and eligibility.
- Approved: Application approved; now sent to finance for payment.
- Sent to PFMS: Payment request has been forwarded to PFMS (waiting for disbursal).
- Rejected: Application rejected — reason shown in portal; you may need to reapply or correct documents.
If your application remains stuck at a verification step for more than the expected time (typically 7–21 days depending on the scheme), request the institute to share the verification status or PFMS sanction order so you can escalate.
Part B — Check NSP Scholarship Payment Status on PFMS (Where Scholarship Amounts are Credited)
Once NSP marks an application as “Sent to PFMS”, departments process payments via PFMS (Public Financial Management System). Use the official PFMS tracker to verify if and when funds reached your bank account.
Open PFMS — Know Your Payment
Visit the official PFMS payment tracker: Open NSP Scholarship Payment Tracker (PFMS)
Use only the official PFMS domain to avoid scams. Bookmark it for re-checks.
Select bank
Type the first few characters of the bank name that is linked to your Aadhaar — a dropdown appears with matching bank names. Select the exact bank variant suggested by PFMS.
Example: Type “State Bank” or “SBI” and choose the specific SBI variant shown — not selecting the correct variant can return no results.

Enter your bank account number
Carefully enter the Aadhaar-seeded bank account number. If your account is not seeded to Aadhaar, PFMS may not return results — seed your account with the bank first.
Re-enter the account number for confirmation
This double-entry reduces typos. Make sure both entries match exactly before proceeding.
Enter the word verification/captcha and click “Send OTP”
Type the captcha exactly and click send OTP. This triggers an OTP to the mobile number associated with the bank account/Aadhaar mapping.
Enter OTP & Verify (Important clarification)
Enter the OTP you receive on your mobile and click Verify OTP. This confirms your identity to view payment entries.

Review transaction list
PFMS displays a list of transactions. Look for entries that indicate scholarship payments or entries with department/scheme references. Click a transaction to view UTR, amount, and date.
If you see a “pending” or “failed” status, note the reference number and contact the paying department or your institute for clarity.
If PFMS shows no result — step-by-step checks
- Confirm Aadhaar seeding: Ensure the bank account is seeded with Aadhaar (ask the bank branch or check banking app).
- Exact bank variant: Use the exact bank name from PFMS dropdown.
- Correct mobile: OTP goes to the mobile linked with the account/Aadhaar — check both records.
- Wait time: Payment postings take time — allow 48–72 hours after department approval.
- Contact institute: Ask your institute to share PFMS UTR or sanction note — with the UTR PFMS/helpdesk can trace the payment.
- Bank errors: If the bank rejected payment due to a mismatch, contact the paying department and bank with details.
If PFMS displays a transaction marked “Success” but you did not get the amount, share the PFMS UTR with your bank — the bank can trace the transaction with that reference.
Typical timeline — from application to payment
Understanding estimated timelines helps set realistic expectations. Timings vary by department and scheme, but a common flow is:
- 0–7 days: Institute verification (depends on institute responsiveness).
- 3–14 days: District/State/Department verification.
- 3–10 days after approval: Department forwards payment to PFMS.
- 1–7 days after PFMS processing: Payment typically posts to bank account (may vary).
Total typical duration: 1–6 weeks from submission to payment, depending on verification speed and department processing load.
